Safety & Emergency Disclaimer
Changes in 1.1: product renamed to Routesmate; addresses moved to routesmate.com.
Summary
- Routesmate is not an emergency service. It never calls any emergency service for you.
- In an emergency, call your local emergency number yourself (112 in India, 911 in the US).
- Crash detection, fall detection, SOS and regroup are helpers. They can miss a real emergency, raise a false alarm, or fail to deliver.
- Automatic crash and fall alerts may be switched off while we check their accuracy. The app tells you whether they are on.
1. What Routesmate is not
1.1 Routesmate is not an emergency, ambulance, police, roadside-assistance or monitoring service. Nobody at Lorsnexus watches your trip in real time or sends help. Our staff will not act on your behalf in an emergency.
1.2 The app never dials an emergency number automatically. The emergency call button shows the number for the country of your SIM card (for example 911 in the US; 112 when we cannot tell) and opens your phone’s dialler with it filled in; you must press call. Check your local number: the app’s list is best effort.
2. What the safety features do
2.1 SOS. You can raise an SOS by holding the SOS button, or by other shortcuts the app shows you. The app alerts your trip members and watchers and your emergency contacts.
2.2 Crash and fall detection. The app uses your phone’s motion sensors and speed to spot what may be a crash or a fall. A fall starts a 30-second countdown you can cancel before anyone is alerted. Sensor readings are processed on your phone.
2.3 Emergency SMS. Emergency contacts who do not use Routesmate are sent an SMS from your own phone and SIM, with your name and location. Your operator’s normal charges apply. If you have not allowed the app to send SMS, it opens your messaging app with the message ready, and you must press send.
2.4 Regroup and arrival alerts help a group stay together. They are not a safety guarantee.
2.5 Blocking never stops a safety alert. A crash, fall or SOS alert still reaches everyone in the trip and your emergency contacts, even someone you have blocked.
2.6 Our safety team receives an email with the details of each incident (your name, location and device status) so a person can review it afterwards. This is not a live response service.
2.7 Safety features are free. They are never behind a paywall.
3. Automatic crash and fall alerts may be off
3.1 Automatic detection must pass an accuracy check before its alerts are sent to anyone. Until it does, detection may run silently: a detected crash or fall is recorded for testing but no alert is sent to anyone. The app shows whether automatic alerts are on. Manual SOS always sends alerts. The Safety settings screen shows whether automatic alerts are on or in silent testing, and the status changes only by a release that updates this page.
4. Why safety features can fail
Safety features can fail or be delayed, including when:
- there is no mobile signal or data, or the network is congested;
- your phone’s battery is low or flat, or battery-saving settings stop the app running in the background;
- you have not granted location, background location, notification, physical-activity or SMS permissions, or your phone limits them;
- GPS is inaccurate — in tunnels, cities, forests or bad weather;
- the phone is not on you, is in a bag, or is damaged in the crash;
- a crash or fall does not look like one to the sensors (for example a slow-speed crash), or normal events (dropping the phone, a pothole) look like one;
- your emergency contacts’ phones are off, out of coverage or silenced, or their numbers are wrong;
- our servers or our providers (Google, Cloudflare, Oracle Cloud) are unavailable, or we have switched a feature off to fix a problem.
5. What you should do
- In an emergency, call your local emergency number (112 in India, 911 in the US) yourself.
- Keep your emergency contacts up to date and make sure they have agreed to be contacted.
- Grant the permissions the safety features need, keep your phone charged, and check the app shows sharing is active.
- Never use your phone in a way that distracts you from driving or riding. The driving lock helps, but you are responsible for driving safely and lawfully.
- Do not rely on Routesmate as your only safety measure, especially when travelling alone or in remote areas.
6. Responsibility
6.1 To the extent the law allows, Lorsnexus is not liable for harm caused by a safety feature failing to detect an event, raising a false alarm, or failing to deliver an alert. See section 13 of the Terms. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence. You acknowledge this disclaimer in the app when you turn on crash or fall detection and when you set up emergency contacts.
6.2 We show this notice in the app before you first use safety features, and record that it was shown.
